I have created maps that show entire countries all the way down to maps of a single building.

The goal is always to illuminate the important aspects of your story, whether that means showing the vast scale of the world your characters need to navigate, or focusing on a single location where key events occur.

Most of my maps are for fantasy novels and follow the conventions of that genre. My gallery shows examples of the type of maps I have drawn in the past.

I can create maps in black and white, full colour, sepia tone, or any combination thereof.

In many cases, my clients have asked for a black and white version to include in a paperback book (to keep printing costs lower) and a full colour version to use in the ebook and in their marketing. This is something we will discuss when preparing the quote so you can make a fully informed decision before you commit.

Most of my clients are authors and my standard agreement allows you to use the map in your book and in the associated marketing of those books. For example, you can share it on social media and add it to your website.

As standard, I do not include merchandise rights within the agreement, meaning you are not allowed to make and sell merchandise featuring the map.

Ideally a sketch of your locations. This doesn't need to be anything special but it will act as a great jumping-off point for my initial sketch of your map.

It doesn't even need to have any doodles on it if art isn't your thing - it can be as simple as just the written place names positioned on the page in their respective locations.

If you can provide some accompanying notes on the various geographical features then that is also really useful: "There's a mountain range in the top right-hand corner"; "A river runs through the forest and meets the coast below Town X".

While I am often working with clients who are nearing the end of their writing process, I have also worked with several clients who only have some of their locations worked out. Seeing the map sketched out allowed them to see those locations in relation to one another and to see where gaps still existed in their worlds.

The process of creating the map went hand-in-hand with the creation of their drafts, with each one informing the other as they both developed.

This can mean a longer process from start-to-finish, but I am very happy to work with you to develop your world and the map as you develop your story.
